Daniel Biss responds to Trump’s Medicaid work requirements

Daniel Biss released the following statement in response to Donald Trump’s policy guidance regarding how states can impose work requirements as a condition of Medicaid eligibility.

“Healthcare is a fundamental human right, not a luxury of the wealthy few. But as Donald Trump continues attacking our care—now by encouraging states to cut people with disabilities, home caregivers, students, and retirees from Medicaid—Bruce Rauner needs to take a stand and keep Medicaid work requirements for healthcare out of Illinois.

“We can’t trust these inexperienced, out-of-touch billionaires to protect our care, or even to understand how their choices devastate our families. But, the truth is, even defending the status quo isn’t enough. Until healthcare is truly universal, Trump and his allies will continue to chip away at protections for the most vulnerable. That’s why I’m fighting for Medicare-for-All in Illinois”
